Car Hits Building At Landfill Causing Fire

Firefighters quickly contained a fire at the Sanitation Department Thursday afternoon when a driver crashed into a building and struck a gas line.

The incident occurred around 3:30 at the offices of the Sanitation Department on Baler Drive. Lawrenceburg City Manager Chris Shaffer said that two individuals were taken for treatment at Crockett Hospital. One, Shaffer said, suffered from smoke inhalation while the other had sustained a wrist injury.

Shaffer said the fire caused damages to the office area of the facility. Due to cleanup and repairs necessitated by the fire, he said the offices would be closed throughout the day on both Friday and Saturday.

Lawrenceburg Fire Department Investigator Shayne Adams said that once the gas line had been shut down, firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the blaze.

The incident is being investigated through the Lawrenceburg Police Department.
