Officials Seek Suspect Who Stole Truck And Trailer

Law enforcement officials have been asked to determine whether a local man, named as a suspect in several recent crimes, stole a truck and trailer at different times from the same property Friday.

Deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department were contacted by a Summertown resident Friday afternoon. He reported that he had left his 1988 Ford Ranger at a friend’s home a couple of months prior when it had become disabled.

He discovered on Friday that the truck had been stolen. He was able to locate tire tracks in the mud, indicating that the truck had been towed away. He gave deputies the name of a man he suspected had committed the crime.

The victim told deputies he had checked with a local rental company and learned that the suspect had rented a car dollie and was due to return it by 2:30 p.m. He said that he waited at the business for a time, but that the man never returned.

In addition, the victim reported he had borrowed a horse trailer from his friend and had returned it that morning. He said he had received a call from the owner that afternoon inquiring about the whereabouts of his trailer.

A neighbor told deputies he had seen the victim return the trailer. He said that it was later taken by an individual driving a two-tone K5 Chevrolet Blazer. The victim noted that the suspect drives a vehicle matching the same description.

Investigation into the crimes has been turned over to detectives with the department’s Criminal Investigation Division. Anyone who has information relevant to the investigation is encouraged to contact the department at 762-3626.
