Vandal Causes Thousands In Damage To Summertown Baseball Field
Summertown Dixie Youth Baseball League officials report that a baseball field at the park would have to be “completely rebuilt” due to the recent actions of vandals.
Reports filed through the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department show that a deputy was dispatched to Ball Park Road where he spoke with a league representative. He reported that he had received a telephone call the previous night from an individual who had heard noises at the ball field.
He arrived shortly after 8:00 a.m. to find that chains that had secured a gate leading to the boys’ baseball field had been removed, and the gate was standing open. He said the culprit had driven onto the field and “spun doughnuts, making ruts and destroying” the field.
The league representative estimated damages to total around $10,000. He told the deputy that the field could not be salvaged, but must be completely rebuilt. He told the deputy that he did, “Want to prosecute to the full extent of the law on this matter and wanted the field fixed.”
The case currently remains under investigation. Anyone who has information is urged to contact the sheriff’s department at 931-762-3626.
