Thursday Evening Fire Destroys Industry Building

A fire in Lawrenceburg Thursday evening destroyed a building at a local industry and resulted in an injury to one firefighter.

Members of the Lawrenceburg Fire Department were dispatched to the Curtis Industries building on Howard Street before 6:00 p.m. where a small wooden structure adjacent to the main building had caught fire.

Firefighters worked diligently to extinguish the blaze, which rekindled a number of times. Reports indicate the smaller structure was completely destroyed along with a number of wooden pallets, however the main building was only singed.

While on the scene, officials report an accident resulted in injury to one fireman. Jeff Kerstiens sustained injury to one leg when a fire hose was run over, causing it to snap back and strike his leg. Kerstiens reportedly sustained a broken bone and was quickly transported to Crockett Hospital for medical attention.

Investigation into the fire is continuing at the current time. Cold temperatures overnight caused freezing of the scene and has hindered the investigation to a certain degree. Fire Investigator Shayne Adams said he is currently questioning witnesses and will continue his investigation as weather permits.
