Resident Says Driver Backed Into Him

An investigation was initiated during the weekend after a Loretto resident reported a driver had intentionally struck him with a truck while he was walking along a public roadway.

The victim, age 60, reported the matter to deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department shortly before 1:00 p.m. Saturday.

He reported he had been walking along the shoulder of Rascal Town Road when the driver of a Ford truck passed by so closely that he was showered with gravel from the tires.

The victim told deputies that in his anger he made a rude gesture toward the driver, who stopped his truck and began to back toward him.

The victim reported that he held his hands up, but that the driver backed into him, knocking him three to four feet backwards. He said the man exited his truck, identified himself, walked to the rear, and struck him on the right jaw.

According to the victim, when he pulled out his cell phone to summon police officers, the man got back into his truck and drove away.

The victim was able to provide deputies with the truck’s license plate number. Reports show that the truck is registered to a resident of Killen, Alabama.

Investigation in the matter is on-going at the present time.
