Theft, Vandalism Reported At Summertown Cemetery

An Ethridge resident told law enforcement officials late last week that someone had vandalized and stolen from her son’s grave site.

Deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department were tasked with investigating the matter on Friday. The fifty-year-old victim reported that she had gone to Union Hill Church Cemetery on Buffalo Road, Summertown, to visit her son’s grave when she made the discovery.

According to the victim, the crime occurred sometime between December 30 and January 4. Stolen from the grave were arrowhead and wolf head plaques, a wolf dream catcher, wolf statue with baby wolves, and floral arrangements.

In addition to the missing items, the victim discovered that someone had pulled flowers out of the ground at the grave, and had thrown them over a nearby fence, into a field.

Total loss and damages was estimated to be $77.00. Anyone who has information regarding the crime is encouraged to contact the sheriff’s department at 762-3626.
