Lincoln County Surge Past Ladycats

Daniel Rodgers, Sports

The Lady Cats returned home after a tough win on the road at Loretto and faced a tough Lincoln County team who was on a six game winning streak. The game was a lesson in growth for the very young Lawrence County squad.

The scoring was limited for LCHS in the first quarter as the offense turned the ball over seven times. That, coupled with Lincoln County going 4-7 from the three point line, put the Lady Cats in an early hole, down 22-12 at the end of the first quarter.

In the second quarter, #10 Katie Wayne lit up, going 3 for 3 on three pointers. The defense however was over matched against the seasoned Lincoln County team. At the half, LCHS was down 38-21.

At the beginning of the third period, Lawrence County came out on a mission, cutting into the 17 point lead. After being fouled on a three point shot, and completing the four point play, LCHS cut the lead down to 9 points.

Lincoln battled back after a technical foul was called on #23 Abby Clayton and at the end of the third, the score was 56-45 Lincoln County.

The Falcons’ experience and speed took over in the fourth to close out the game.

The final score of 71-56 hides a much closer, hard fought game.

The Lady Cats were led by Katie Wayne who dropped 21 points on the Lincoln County defense. LCHS improved its three point shooting, hitting 8 of 20 from behind the line.

The loss drops the Lady Cats record to 5-10 on the year with a trip to Columbia on Tuesday coming up. Lincoln County travels to Franklin County Tuesday night to continue district play.
