Deputy Witnesses Assault In Courthouse Parking Lot

An Ethridge woman was jailed Wednesday after a deputy witnessed her assaulting another woman as she left the Lawrence County Courthouse.

A sheriff’s department report shows that the deputy was walking across the courthouse parking lot at the time the incident occurred. He reported hearing someone calling to him from behind. When he turned, he said he saw that the victim was calling to him.

The deputy reports that as he watched, Kallie Leahanna-Rae Long, 21, of Muckle Branch Road, ran toward the woman and swung at her, striking her in the head with her purse.

The deputy quickly intervened, placing Long under arrest for assault. He escorted her to the Lawrence County Detention Center where she was booked without further incident.

Long is scheduled to answer the assault charge in Lawrence County General Sessions Court on January 24, 2012.
