Resident Leads Authorities On Chase Before Arrest

A Lawrenceburg resident lead law enforcement officials on a chase in the early hours Sunday before being apprehended.

Deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department reported the incident took place shortly before 1:00 a.m. when they noticed a vehicle back out of the drive at 1074 Mattoxtown Road.

Believing the driver to be an individual against whom they had two outstanding state warrants, deputies report they engaged their emergency lights, signaling to the driver to pull over. They report that he “sat there about five seconds, then swerved around” a patrol car.

The deputy reports he gave chase, pursuing the driver onto Community Road and Weakley Creek Road, at speeds of up to 70 miles per hour, before the driver finally pulled over.

The driver, Alex Gregory Neal, age 19, was placed under arrest on warrants charging him with the crimes of violation of probation, credit card fraud, aggravated burglary, theft of property and vandalism.

Neal was also issued citations charging him with the traffic violations of speeding, reckless driving, improper passing, traffic control device and violation of the seat belt law.

Neal is scheduled to answer the charges through Lawrence County General Sessions Court on Monday, January 11, 2010.
