Charges Pending Against Summertown Man For Forging Prescription

Charges are pending against a Summertown man whom authorities believe attempted to receive prescription drugs by forging his prescription.

A worker at Walmart Pharmacy contacted the Lawrenceburg Police Department about the matter, indicating that the suspect’s wife had dropped the prescription off to be filled.

The worker explained that while the original prescription, written by Columbia physician Indu Bali, had been written for 90 pills of 0.3 mg of Clonidine, it appeared the second medication had been added by someone other than Bali. The second prescription was for 90 pills of 2.0 mg Xanax.

The initial prescription had been written in black ink, the pharmacy worker reported, while the suspect portion had been written in blue ink. Also, it appeared the prescription bore different handwritings.

Once the suspect, Joey Louie Cordero, age 22, of 108 Nix Lane, picked up the prescription, officers approached him and inquired about the inconsistencies. Cordero denied any knowledge of a forgery.

Officers contacted Bali. He stated that while he had written Cordero prescriptions for Xanax in the past, he had not done so on this particular prescription.

While no charges were placed against Cordero at the time, officers indicate that evidence against him will be presented to the Lawrence County Grand Jury.
