Pregnant Resident Arrested On Public Intoxication Charge

A pregnant Lawrenceburg woman was arrested on public intoxication charges New Year’s Day after allegedly telling a police officer she had been drinking alcoholic beverages for several hours.

Reports filed through the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department show that a deputy was dispatched along Pulaski Highway around 9:20 p.m. after receiving a report of a possible drunk driver.

The responding deputy reported he made contact with the suspect vehicle in the area of Body Works. He noted that the driver was unable to operate the vehicle in the proper lane, weaving out of his lane of travel and across the fog line.

The deputy reports that he attempted to stop the driver, but that he failed to stop until they were in the area of Admiral Circle. He said that driver Danny Oneal Owens, 52, of 262 Tree Top Trail, had a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage about him. In addition, he reported observing two open beers in the floorboard of the truck.

Reports show that Owens failed to perform satisfactorily on field sobriety tests. Although he refused to voluntarily submit to a blood alcohol test, he was required by law to do so because of a previous conviction.

The deputy reports that the female passenger, Shana Paige Graves, 24, of 1230 Old Florence Road, who was eight months pregnant, also appeared to be under the influence of an intoxicant.

Graves told the deputy that she had been consuming alcohol “throughout the day.” She was subsequently arrested on one count of public intoxication.

Both Owens and Graves were also issued citations for violation of the open container law. Both are scheduled to answer the charges against them in Lawrence County General Sessions Court on February 21, 2012.
