Estranged Husband Charged With Domestic Assault

Warrants were issued against a local man on Wednesday after he allegedly assaulted his estranged wife inside her home.

Deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department were dispatched to a home on Harmon Drive on an “unwanted person” call around 8:15 a.m.

The victim, age 53, reported that she and her estranged husband had been arguing throughout the night. She told deputies that they are currently going through a divorce.

The victim said that while he was at her house her husband, James Clifford Williams, age 48, became irate when she told him she wanted him to leave.

She said that he pushed her onto the floor and struck her with a belt. She told deputies that at one point he held her down on the bed, scratching her wrist in the process.

During the altercation, the victim said Williams broke her reading glasses, cell phone and a figurine. Loss was estimated to total $550.

The victim reported that Williams fled through the rear of the home when he saw law enforcement officers pull up at the house.

Although a search of the area was conducted deputies were unable to locate Williams at that time. They did obtain warrants charging him with the crimes of domestic assault and domestic vandalism.
